Most of the attention with the new iPhones will center around the XS (spoken 10 S) and XS Max. However, these iPhones will touch USD 1K and beyond in price and may be a stretch for most consumers, except for rabid fans.
There is another new iPhone, the XR, that is available from USD 749 from 19 October 2018 (pre-orders) that doesn't get as much attention. At the lower price, it loses a few features that the price-level busting XS series have:
- Lower pixel density LCD screen: 326 ppi
- Only single 12 MP rear camera
- Potentially lower memory at 3GB
- Slightly lower battery life (but reported 90 mins longer than the iPhone 8)
In summary, the iPhone XR might the smart buy for most of us who have been waiting to upgrade our smartphones.
