Plyskin

Fibreglass insulation for homes and buildings poses numerous threats for us. It can lead to respiratory problems, along with dry scratchy throat coughing and skin irritation. Plyskin, designed by Lindey Cafsia (a dutch designer) is a unique solution to building insulation.

First, it needs to be on the outside, so it provides a different facade to your home. The cool thing is the inspiration behind it.

Plyskin is a biomimetic, non-toxic insulation - inner layer (skin) is a black PLA designed to absorb heat; the middle layer (underfur) is a dense honeycomb of white PET that traps the heat; and the outer layer (guard hair) is a synthetic fur made from translucent recyclable polyamide, which captures stationary air.

With this concept of biomimicry of the polar bear skin and fur, a new method of building insulation has been developed combining functionality, aesthetics and high value of tactility.
