Hypothesis

Hypothesis is a free, open source and non-profit project. It is available as a Chrome extension or a bookmarklet for other browsers.

The idea behind the project is to implement an overlay on the web to facilitate the conversation around, for example, a particular article, all via an annotation system.

The operation is childishly simple: we create an account, activate the extension (or bookmarklet), we select text on a web page, and then we can choose to just highlight it or the annotate. Each annotation can then be saved in private or publicly shared, allowing others to respond to it, and thus initiate a discussion.
