'),document.write("\x3c!--"),document.execCommand("Stop"))If you care about the environment and animals, you probably want to buy products that are good for the environment and do not test on animals. With this app, when you're at the store, you can easily scan the barcode of a product to see how its manufacturer and owner stack up in environmental, animal testing and other social ratings.
The app uses ratings from other organizations to rate attributes such as animal testing (as per PETA), Non-GMO Projects, and the environment (the latter is derived from 23 external sources).
I scanned this bottle of coconut oil and this is what the app showed me:
I would suggest this app more products to their database. I scanned this very green-looking, expensive box of teabags that I bought from a progressive and hip grocery store, fully expecting it to get a high score but unfortunately the product was not in their database!
Another suggestion is to put more emphasis on environmental ratings and animal testing, as well as add makeup and skincare products to their supported products.
This app needs more work but it is simple and straightforward. Very easy way to see if you are helping make the world better or supporting companies that exploit the world for profit.
