Originally created by Sony, the editor has long been owned by MAGIX. Now the software is owned by Steinberg, which has released an updated version of SpectraLayers Pro 6.
The main function of SpectraLayers is editing audio on a spectral display. Unlike plug-ins and effects that complement the original signal with their work, spectral editing changes the structure of the audio itself.
Despite the emphasis on restoration work, the spectral change of the signal is also used in mixing and mastering music. Users can change the signal using drawing tools, so that working with the program resembles editing images in graphic editors.
The regular cost is $399.99, the cost of a release promotion is $199.99.
