Let's face it, our ocean is polluted with vast amount of plastic, and you know I am not even exaggerating. It is indeed a huge problem and it requires a huge solution indeed to solve it.

Introducing The Ocean Cleanup! This innovative social engineering product utilizes the wave currents to get rid of plastic in the sea. It works by acting as one massive artificial boundary which would gather all floating plastics and carry them through tidal waves to a central tower. The central tower then would be in charge of sorting and recycling of the collected plastics. It is actually so efficient that according to the computer stimulation, about 50% of Great Pacific Garbage Patch could be reduced in 5 years of full-scale deployment. Not only that, the team also aimed to sell all those recycled products in order to achieve self-sustainability to pay for the whole system to work.

This is definitely one of the coolest social innovation I have seen in a while!
