Necessary Explosion

The Necessary Explosion App ( available on iOS) is the brainchild of the creative agency Wieden+Kennedy, and it was created to give users an immersive experience while listening to music by helping them visualize it.

Using a phone or tablet, the listener is able to view psychedelic AR sculptures reminiscent of the 70's.

Each track in the album is transformed into digital sculptures that appear to spin on top of a turntable playing the vinyl version of SOS, an album by Dutch artist Necessary Explosion

The app uses audio fingerprinting technology which has been designed specifically for each track that allows users to engage with the sculptures and move them around.

We see this approach as a new emerging genre for lots of artists, one which can open up new possibilities for all kinds of AR music experiences.”
