Microsoft acquired Github today. I believe this is not necessarily a bad thing for open-source projects and the community since Github itself was not open-source and it is controlled by a for-profit company.
However, that may be a wake-up call to use the free software alternatives instead of coupling with for-profit organizations like Github, Gitlab, Bitbucket etc. They're here for the profit and they may exit anytime when a good offer comes up.
People started importing their git repositories to Gitlab. But that's just another for-profit company.
That's why "free" as in "free speech," not as in "free beer" software matters.
If you want to feel free and don't want to deal with privacy concerns, Gitea is for you.
It's a lightweight code hosting solution with a similar interface compared to github.
It's not a complete solution, though. There is a good comparison table located at their website.
