The code itself is open source; but only available for Mac for some reason. There are many cool things about Zed that may not matter to a beginner like me. At leas it is good to see competition
There seems to be a great deal of work to be done to match VS Code at getting the extensions and support. Overall I think Zed will help to push the development of IDE and code editor software further.
